100% insulation grants available

There is now a grant-supported scheme in the Borders for external wall insulation. The scheme was launched at easter, and provides insulation cladding around the outside of single-skin stone or brick buildings, with a render-finished outer layer. Grants of up to 100% of the cost are available, depending on eligibility criteria.

The service deliverer for the scheme is Scottish Gas, and anyone interested can contact the appropriate department on 0800 980 7374. This number was hard to track down, but takes you straight to the people who do it.

At least one homeowner in Stow is trying to get their house insulated through the scheme, but are having to wait until there is enough houses in this area to survey before they’ll send a surveyor out, so if you might be interested in the scheme, or know of any one who may be interested it would help us all if you could pass on this information.

Thanks, very interesting, will follow this up. Do you happen to know if there are any grants available to double glaze?

I phoned the 0800 number in July, asked for a quotation, and received by return a glossy brochure and a welcome letter which said “in the coming weeks you will receive a phone call to arrange a ‘Suitability Survey’. Nothing happened. I phoned & emailed. I received a phone call asking to speak to ‘the energy manager of the company’. I explained that I was a private householder and the caller apologised and hung up. After eight weeks plus, yesterday I made an official complaint, and today received a phone call promising that a surveyor will phone me next week. The call came from 0800 072 5230 (which I think is British Gas Business Marketing) but gave me the contact number 0800 107 0041, which is British Gas’s other insulation sales number. A very inconvenient delay when I’m trying to get three quotes for a job that could cost £8,000 or more (I don’t qualify for a grant).
