HMS Queen Elizabeth Model – made in Stow

The Airfix company was asked by the Royal Navy to make a one-off 1/350 scale model of the new aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth now being built in Rosyth Dockyard. Airfix asked me to make the model which had to be ready for when HM the Queen named the ship on 4th July. It was a difficult build because there was no kit and I had to make it from scratch.

The model took three months to make and was handed over to the Royal Navy two days before the naming ceremony. It is currently ashore in Rosyth Dockyard but it will be going onboard HMS Queen Elizabeth in due course. Airfix issued a press release about the model which you can read at: http://www.airfix.com/news/airfix-unveil-specially-commissioned-queen-elizabeth-aircraft-carrier-model/

A very rewarding build for me especially as I used to serve in the Royal Navy.
