Low Carbon Galawater winter update

Winter is upon us, time for the woolly jumpers again. Slow-cookers will be simmering away, with hearty stews and chunky soups.

This year, some households will spend less on heating, having insulated their houses better. The long-awaited Green Deal launched on 01 October. This is a new initiative that will let homes and businesses pay for energy saving improvements, like insulation, through savings on their fuel bills (www.decc.gov.uk).

Those of us moving the LCG projects forward are all busier than ever, and have a vacancy for a committee secretary to help keep us organised. If you think you can help, and would like to get involved with community group work, please get in touch! For more information on LCG or to join our mailing list, please contact Steffen by E-mail (taschner@hotmail.com) or write to Low Carbon Galawater c/o Steffen Taschner, 151 Galashiels Road, TD1 2RE Stow

Hi, I was wondering if the group are still considering micro hydro? I currently work for Scottish Enterprise and have a number of contacts in this area. Regards Richard

    Hi Richard,
I would be very interested but not having much success with Planning re build of Passive House near Stow. Seem very rigid, even with the suggestion of solar slates – still want natural slate. Can’t even move the house 2 metres to maximise solar gain. Just wanted to build a sustainable house with low carbon footprint for myself and future generations but it appears this will not materialise. Very disappointed. Will have to look to pastures new. Sorry Stow.
